Great win by Black Caps last night spearheaded by our own Ajaz Patel.

Congratulations to Ajaz Patel on steering the Black Caps to an epic test win overnight. Ajaz may play for Central Districts but he is a Suburbs man through and through having learnt his cricket at the club as he came through juniors into the Premier side. It was at the club that he made his fateful decision to change from being a fast bowler (he opened the bowling for Auckland Under 19s) to a left arm spinner .... and thank heavens he did. Ajaz always comes down to the club when he is back in Auckland and is a regular at the Cricketer of the Year dinner. On behalf of the whole club a huge congratulations to Ajaz!!

And of course Jeet Raval also played a significant role in the win with a good knock in the second innings - so a double Suburbs contribution. But if you think two Suburbs players contributing to a Black Caps win is good, check out this photo. In 2008-09 the Suburbs Premier team (under the captaincy of James 'Trainer' Nolen) won the Hedley Howarth Two Day Premier Championship for the first time in 25 years. And in that side .... no fewer than seven players who went on to play for the Black Caps. How is this for a roll of honour in one club team...

Martin Guptill, Jeet Raval, Ajaz Patel, Jimmy Neesham, Daryl Tuffey, Reece Young, Michael Bates

If you are a junior player at Suburbs dream big ... there is a proven path to the top if you believe and work hard.

And a challenge to all other cricket clubs - can you beat seven internationals in the same club team in one season?
